ARTHUR’S STORY

Arthur Perkins began his martial arts journey over three decades ago, dedicating himself to the study of discipline and combat athleticism from a young age. His training led him to achieve a sixth-degree black belt in Ninjitsu, awarded by the esteemed Grandmaster Eugene David Floyd, a second-degree black belt in Shotokan Karate, and extensive experience in kickboxing. These foundational arts instilled in Arthur the principles of resilience, respect, and precision, shaping him as both a martial artist and an International Sports Science Association (ISSA) Master Trainer.

In 2001, Arthur joined the military, where he was introduced to the Modern Army Combatives Program (MACP) and became a Master Trainer for his unit. This experience broadened his perspective on combative training, revealing that adaptability was essential for effectiveness in self-defense and combat sports. Seeking to expand his skill set, Arthur decided to supplement his training with additional grappling techniques, adding Brazilian Jiu Jitsu to his 'rucksack' of technical options. He then sought out Professor Roy Dean and, through dedicated study, earned his blue belt in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, marking a new phase in his martial arts journey.

At Empty Hands Academy, Arthur has created a welcoming environment for students of all skill levels, from complete beginners to experienced practitioners. His teaching philosophy emphasizes that martial arts is not just about physical skill but about building confidence, character, and resilience in a supportive community. Arthur believes that every student’s journey is unique, and he is dedicated to helping each individual achieve their personal goals, whether they aim to master self-defense, compete in combat sports, or simply improve their fitness and focus.

As a Roy Dean Academy affiliate, Arthur combines his diverse martial arts background and expertise in combat sports-specific conditioning to foster a holistic approach to training. By blending traditional martial arts, Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, and scientifically proven fitness methodologies, he ensures that each student’s training is rooted in both technical mastery and evidence-based physical development.
