BRIAN’S STORY

Brian's martial arts career spans several decades, His first class in martial arts was in the late 1970's as a young child. Over the years he has achieved significant milestones in various martial arts disciplines.

Brian is an alumni of the Fred Degerberg Academy in Chicago. He is a prior service United States Marine, having served in the infantry. Brian is a graduate of the ACMA “Martial Arts Specialist” course through the Cooper Institute. He coached 4 IKF kickboxing national champions. Brian is a 3rd kyu in Aikido, Shodan in Toyama Ryu iaido, Shichidan under Dave Kovar in Satori Ryu, and Purple Belt in Brazilian Jiu jitsu.

Life lead Brian to found Success Martial Arts in 1995. His first adventures in BJJ followed shortly thereafter. As an instructor, Brian has helped thousands of students achieve their own martial arts goals, from beginners to advanced practitioners. His dedication to continuous learning and mastery has not only honed his personal skills but also enriches the programs he offers to his students. Outside the dojo, Brian is actively involved in community service, focusing on empowering youth through martial arts. He spent 6 years as a Juvenile Corrections Specialist becoming an expert in managing and improving behavior with kids who were in desperate need. He has created outreach programs, using martial arts as a tool for helping children and families develop skills to mitigate problems like setting healthy boundaries with those who don’t value respect, and cultivating habits of attention to be effective in the modern world.

Brian's community service initiatives have enhanced the lives of over 15,000 neighbors in Twin Falls, promoting values such as respect, self-discipline, and persistence. Community leaders have nominated him for “The Jefferson Award” for community service on 3 separate occasions.

Brian's approach to teaching is centered around creating a supportive, and challenging environment for students of all ages and skill levels. He believes that martial arts training should be a profound experience, fostering physical, mental, and emotional growth. Brian's philosophy is rooted in the idea that martial arts should be a life long project in individual development, where students can develop their unique potential and become the best version of themselves.
